Editing Images with AI

Image actions

Select a single image layer and a small floating toolbar appears next to it โ€” click the wand button to open the AI image actions. (With the inspector open, the same actions also appear as an "Image actions" section in the panel.) They're grouped into three areas: edit the image you have, generate new versions, and convert the image into something else.

Each action runs when you click its Generate button. Some open a small panel first so you can set options or describe what you want. Results either replace the image in place or arrive as a new layer:

  • When an action replaces the image, the previous versions are kept in a version strip above the action. Step back through it to compare or restore an earlier result.
  • When an action adds a new layer, your original image stays untouched.

Image actions only appear when exactly one image layer is selected. Each action spends AI credits when you run it.

Edit

Edit area

Change one part of an image while leaving the rest alone. Paint over the area with the brush, or drag a box around it, then describe the change and click Generate. Only the area you marked is regenerated.

Today you select the area with a brush or a box. More selection tools are planned.

Remove background

Cut out the subject and leave the rest transparent. Click Generate and the background is removed in place.

Adjust colors

Tune the image with brightness, contrast, saturation, and warmth sliders. Set the sliders, then click Generate to apply.

Generate

Change background

Keep the subject and replace what's behind it. Describe the new background, then click Generate.

Remix

Reimagine the image. A slider controls how close the result stays to the original, and you can add optional guidance text to steer it. Click Generate to create the new version.

Generate variations

Make several alternative versions of the image at once. Choose how many you want, then click Generate.

Outpaint or crop

Extend the image beyond its current edges, or crop inward. Set the new bounds, then click Generate.

Upscale

Increase the resolution and detail of the image. Click Generate to produce the higher-resolution version.

Convert

Convert to mockup

Place your design into a realistic scene. Pick a scene โ€” phone screen, laptop screen, browser window, framed poster, t-shirt, or business card โ€” then click Generate.

Vectorize

Trace the image into editable vector shapes, so you can adjust points and fills directly. Click Generate and the result is added as vector layers. See Tools for editing vector shapes.

Extract prompt

Get an AI-written description of the image. Click Generate and you'll get text you can reuse as a prompt for generating new images.
